Most
of Prague hotels has seen this year sales fall from 20 to
35 percent per one room. The reason is the loss of visitors due to the financial crises and the
reduction of accommodation prices by hotel owners. According to
Association of hotels and restaurants this is the worst season in ten years.
Prague hotels lost mainly Germans, English, Irish, Dutch, Japanese,
Americans, Spaniards and Brazilians. Offer exceeded demand in most
regions of the Czech Republic since last year, mainly in Prague, where you can find more hotels than in Vienna.
Occupancy dropped by 18 percent, and prices by 11 percent. This gives
an overall drop of about 28 per cent
compared with last year. Hotels in Prague generally try to keep good
staff instead of paying for the outgoing employees, however for some
hotels it was necessary to decrease the number of their personals.
Tourism generates in Prague 100 000 jobs and constitute 25 percent of
Prague's gross incomes. Prague is dependent mainly on foreign visitors,
which
are this year fewer.

Prague, the beautiful capital of the Czech Republic, is now a
westernized city, but retains the old charm of the past, except during
the tourism season.
Prague is one of the most beautiful European cities, the capital of the
Czech Republic has changed during recent decades. From the communist
past of the former Soviet Union to the collapse of the Berlin Wall to
the modern times in which the city was westernized. But why it hasn't
lost its charm?
During the high season like Summer, Autumn, Easter and Christmas
Holidays Prague undergoes a real invasion of tourists. Prague has
changed when compared to the Communist era but the beauty of its key
sites remains intact from the Old Town Square to the Lesser Town
passing through Charles Bridge.
For those who had not done yet and for those who wish to return, a
visit to Prague is strongly recommended. For those who don't mind
walking on the streets surrounded by tourists from all over Europe-if
not the whole world- you can visit Prague this summer and enjoy special
low prices for apartments, we have many air-conditioned apartments in
different Districts of Prague, so Summer in Prague will be just a quest of charm.

So now in the Czech Republic you only hear about the Crown's fast rise against the Euro and the fear of Czechs, mainly in the travel industry field. Is Prague becoming an expensive destination for travelers? That's how it seems but reality is different.
This is a good slap for hotel or apartment owners and travel agents to wakeup and start behaving fairly to tourists, you can read in each forum or tourist board that Prague is just beautiful BUT Czech people are impolite, waiters, shop assistants and travel agents all suck. The Czech economy is very immature and such economical crisis is necessary as an experience to learn from..
Since 1989 many Czechs jumped directly from the Communist darkness into the travel field without any experience and even without any education, not even the politeness to smile at their costumers or say simple hello, for them tourists where just like merchandise or potatoes they deliver and get commission. So we all hope that this Crown crises will clean the market from these old fashion dinosaurs.
Hotel owner in Prague started raising the prices of accommodation during last few years without any strategy or logic, add to this the rise of VAT, add also the rise of Czech Koruna against Euro, Prague is todays quite the same expensive as Paris > nonsense!
The good news is that we are now receiving daily phone calls and emails from apartment owners offering special discounts trying to (at leasts) cover their expenses, well this is a bit delayed reaction from them but still a good news for travelers who will find good apartment bargains in Prague .
Today with empty rooms, Czech hotel owners will have three choices: Change the strategy and reduce the prices, sell their properties to more skilled people or simply go back to tourism school somewhere in Spain or Tunisia.
