Prague is a very interesting city with a lots of history, art and
culture. It's relatively cheap compared to other western European
capitals, millions of people from all around the world visit Prague
every year.
One day stay in Prague makes nonsense, staying two days, you will be
a bit tight on time, spending three days, you will visit the city in a
big hurry, even though a one week stay is the mostly recommended, a
minimum of four days stay could be enough for Prague, to visit the
Castle and its surroundings, the Old Town, the Petrin Hill in the
Lesser Town, from which you get a great view of the Castle and the
Wenceslas Square. Also spend some time in restaurants to taste Czech
cuisine and purchase some handcrafts and souvenirs from Czech
crystal shops. The real
attractions of Prague are the bustling small streets and the crowd
of people from all over the world. Prague is quite a small town, but
there are so many streets and inviting corners that cannot be
underestimated, everywhere you turn you have to stop and look, so be
prepared for all-day walks.
But usually it depends on what you want to do and your style of
travel. If you are in Prague for the cultural sights and want to
experience the highlights of the city then more days of stay will be
necessary. Get ready for a long walk that will familiarize you with
the layout of the Prague. Explore the Old Town Square which is
located in Prague historical centre, in the mean
time visit the Powder Tower which is adjacent to the Municipal House,
an Art Nouveau architectural masterpiece where the Czechoslovakian
Republic was declared in1918. Visit the Old Town Hall and its
Astronomical clock on the southern side of the hall. The tower of
the Old Town Hall also offers a great view of the square and the
whole Old Town.
Walk to the Wenceslas Square, the scene of the November
1989 protests against the communist regime, around the evening head to the
Charles Bridge that offers a unique night view of the Castle and the
Lesser Town. Charles bridge connects the Mala Strana called in English the
Lesser Town with the Old Town. Cross the Lesser Town on your way to
Prague Castle, the world’s largest ancient castle, walk uphill
through the famous Nerudova street and while you are in the Prague
Castle area, visit the St. Vitus Cathedral which also has a tower
offering another stunning view of Prague. For shopping stick with the Na
Prikope Street near the Wenceslas Square also as shopping malls
in the Republic Square and Andel District, for exclusive luxury
brands, check the prestigious Parizska street in the Old Town.
The Karlstejn Castle located at 30 km from Prague also deserves a half
day visit mainly for another long walk through the amazing nature around
the castle. If you are traveling with kids, consider spending another
half day in the zoo of Prague, it has a great variety of animals you'd
expect from a huge modern zoo and make sure you don't miss anything.
While you are in the Czech republic and as transportation is easy
and relatively inexpensive, it's worth visiting Cesky Krumlov and
spending one or two nights there, it's a charming medieval city
south of Prague and there is a lot to do there. If you have few
extra days you can spend them on a relaxation stay in the famous Czech spa
town Karlovy Vary.
