Finding and booking an Apartment in Prague could be described as a few
clicks process, but better not to precipitate because reserving
accommodation can hide many unpleasant surprises that can turn your
holidays into a nightmare. Here I wrote a step by step guide for finding
an Apartment in Prague, a procedure that goes through all the advises
and cautions that you should consider while planning your trip.
To begin with, decide about the size of your Apartment
Depending on the number of people who will be traveling, you can decide
about the number of bedrooms in the apartment, this may also
influence the price of the apartment in a next step. Couples will
mostly go for a Studio or even a One Bedroom apartment as this has
an independent bedroom and a separate living room, if you are
planning to stay for extended period and wish to cook your own
meals, the one bedroom option is recommended as you will avoid
the smell in your sleeping place. If you are in Prague just
for a weekend or you are planning to eat mostly in restaurants, then
you can save on the Studio option, there are many tiny nicely
furnished studios to choose from at very reasonable prices.
Small families, a couple with one or two children can also stick
with the One Bedroom Apartment, as it has usually a sofa-bed for
children in the Living room and an independent bedroom for the
parents, some of the clients prefer more commodity and comfort so
they go for the Two Bedroom apartment option, some of the apartments
have even two bathrooms for more intimacy. The two bedroom
apartments in Prague are mainly the choice of larger families with
adult children for whom sleeping on the sofa-bed is not that
comfortable. Two couples traveling together to Prague usually go for
the Two Bedroom Apartments with two bathrooms, but as there aren't that
many apartments with such facility, it's recommended to book in
advance as apartments with two bathrooms are preferred by most of
guests.
For larger families or Groups of friends traveling to Prague
together, getting a Three Bedroom or even a Four Bedroom apartment
that accommodated from 10 to 21 guests is a good choice mainly from
the economical point of view, single beds can be distributed in the
apartment as per the client's wishes. For large groups there are many
apartments in the same building, so a group of 30 or 40 people can
be accommodated in three or four apartments even in the same floor,
so that they stay in touch and organized during their trip to
Prague.
Following the point mentioned above, choose the right Prague district for you
You should first understand the structure of the city of Prague.
Prague has 10 districts, but only some of those districts will
interest you for choosing your holiday apartment.
Prague 1 which includes the medieval center of the city composed of
the: The Old Town (Stare Mesto in Czech) and the Jewish Quarter
(Josefov), The Lesser Town or the Little Quarter
(Mala Strana) , Prague Castle Area (Hradcany) and the New Town (Nove
Mesto) mainly known with its Wenceslas Square (Vaclavske Namesti).
You will find most of the monuments, attractions and sights in Prague 1, a
UNESCO World Heritage Sites, like Prague Castle, the Old Town Square,
the Charles Bridge and the Jewish Quarter.
Prague 2 that includes Vysehrad with its national cemetery and the
ruins of a medieval fortress, the New Town with its Charles Square
(Karlovo Namesti) and the Gothic town hall, and Vinohrady, with its
exclusive Art Nouveau Apartments from the late 19th century.
Prague 3 district includes most of the Zizkov area with its largest
equestrian statue in the world, the statue of Jan Zizka , the 216
meter-high Zizkov Television Tower, the grave of Czech-German writer
Franz Kafka also as many beautiful parks like the famous Vitkov
park.
Prague 5 that holds the Andel shopping area on Smichov, a new center of Prague with many international offices and one big
shopping mall easily accessible by public transport, Metro, tram
lines and buses.
The rest of Prague districts are also worth visiting as each
district has its unique sights and monuments, but as we are talking
about apartment rentals, and after around 10 years experience, we
can assume that tourists usually prefer the above mentioned
districts, mainly as they are more centric, safe and concentrate
most of the monuments and attractions of Prague.
Another important point, fix your Budget for the Apartment
The prices of Apartments in Prague usually depend on the above
mentioned two points: the size and the location, but it also depends
on the level of equipments and furniture of the apartment.
Apartments are classified from Economy (one star) to Platinum (five
stars), between those categories you can also choose Bronze, Silver
of Gold. There are apartments with just basic furniture for tourists
who are interested mainly in exploring the charm of Prague and just
need a place to sleep. And high standard apartments furnished with
design furniture and high-end electronics also as air-conditioning
and Internet connection. In between, there are many reasonably priced
apartments with useful non exaggerated equipments and amenities,
those are the mostly preferred apartments for the average travelers.
As we already mentioned, the location influences notably the price
of the apartment, usually apartments that are in the Wenceslas
Square and the Old Town are the most priced, followed by Apartments
in the Mala Strana and near Prague Castle, and then Apartments that
are in areas around the center of Prague, like Vinohrady, Andel and
Zizkov. There are also few apartments in further districts like
Prague 8 or Prague 7 that are usually in a budget and chosen
by guests who travel to Prague with their own cars or those who don't mind
traveling to the heart of Prague by metro, tram or bus.(A photo courtesy to Josef Hannin).
Next step is to contact a Travel Consultant in Prague
The next step will be, to contact a travel agent in Prague, better a
specialized one in apartment rentals, just write a brief e-mail
about your preferences, the location where you like to stay, also as
your traveling terms, the number of guests, if there will be some
children (in many cases children are accommodated free of charges),
your approximate budget and any other extra wishes as Internet
connection, air-conditioning...etc. Once you receive an answer from
the agent, don't hesitate to ask any other question that may come up to
your mind, and just run away from any agent who doesn't care that
much to answer you concretely, remember you will be paying your
money, so better to avoid any bad surprises due to a poor information about the location in Prague or the amenities of the
apartments. Also if you are planning to stay in Prague for an
extended period or if you are booking more apartments at once, don't hesitate to negotiate the prices if possible, saving
few bucks for a dinner in Prague or a museum entrance is always
useful.
Last but not the least, book the apartment as soon as possible
Once you feel satisfied with the apartment and the offer in general,
you will have to book the apartment, usually it's better to make the
reservation as soon as possible, Prague is quite busy, mainly during
weekends and you can never guarantee that the apartment doesn't get
booked while you are still thinking or hesitating. Normally, a
credit card number
is enough to make a booking, in some cases a deposit is required but
generally you will be informed by the agent about the booking
conditions. After making the booking, it's highly advised to take
the concrete phone number of the person who will be meeting you for
the ckeck-in, many apartments have a reception desk for the
check-in, others don't, get the exact address and verify it on
Google maps to avoid confusion at your arrival. Also provide your
full detailed contacts and a mobile phone number with roaming that
you will be using during your stay in order to be reached in case of
emergency. We would also recommend using the Airport Transfer Service
provided by the travel agent as this will facilitate the check-in
process as the driver will assist you and take you directly to the
address of your apartment, he will even wait until you meet the
responsible person for the apartment.
By following the above mentioned steps you will make the right decision
choosing your Apartment in Prague, you will avoid deceptions while
booking the apartment and bad surprises at your arrival to Prague.
