Charles Bridge, Prague

The construction of Charles Bridge (Karluv Most in Czech) started in 1357 by King Charles IV and lasted till the 15th century.
It used to be the only bridge over the Vltava River that connects both sides of the Old Town and Prague Castle .

Charles Bridge also played main role in making Prague important trade route between Eastern and Western Europe.
At the beginning the bridge was called the Stone Bridge or also Prague Bridge and by 1870 Charles Bridge.

Charles Bridge is 516 meters long and 10 meters wide, resting on 16 arches. There are three towers protecting Charles Bridge, two of them on the Lesser Town side and the third one on the Old Town side. There are also 30 baroque-style statues decorating the bridge.

During the day Charles Bridge gets busy with artists, painters, musicians and crowded with thousands of tourists. During the sunset and night, the bridge looks more romantic and reminds medieval times.
